cargo

top: Geld Iaz, 2007 | cargo pants: Joyce Leslie, 2004 | shoes: DSquared, 2003 | eyewear: Yves St Laurent, 2010

it’s 74˚! yay! you know what that means— Aperol spritzers at my faaavorite outdoor cafe in all of NYC, Gusto Ristorante e Bar Americano (again).

and yes these cargo pants are from Joyce Leslie, i bought them for like 24 bucks, i got them in black and eggshell too. and funny— these were the pants (in black) i was wearing when i went to auditon for that big "reality" teevee show about the fashion designers, that i’m not really allowed to chronicle because i signed a non-disclosure agreement. to make a long story short, a few years ago John Gulager (the winner of the last Project Greenlight contest/reality-series) recommended i go try out for this other "reality" series (and when an experienced contest winner like that suggests you do something similar, you don’t think about it, you just do it).

so i did, and i made it all the way to the last stage of the audition where you personally address the final deciding committee— it was a darkened daunting room with cameras and things and a bunch of intimidating producers and teevee personalities and former contestants and whatnot. i had my portfolio and three dresses just as required, but everybody in the room was a creepy jerkface (except for the one nice former contestant who was totally feelin my motorcycle gear), i am not even kidding. they were impatient with my portfolio and couldn’t care less about my dresses, but the one article of clothing they liked of all things, were my pants— one of the intimidating producer creeps exasperatedly asked me, "well, did you make your pants?"

i had to bite my tongue, i wanted to tell her "no they’re from Joyce Leslie, i got them for 24 bucks. you stupid tasteless bitch." but then i refrained, because i realized that kind of arrogant attitude was exactly what was going to land me a spot on the show, but being in that room with all those creepotoids made me really not want to experience another minute of that horror. and i was right, because a little while later somebody i know ended up on Top Chef, and she fucking hated it.

anyway. mhmmp, this is why i will never be rich.

fire

hoodie: Michael Kors (men’s), 2007 | leggings: Forever 21, 2008 | shoes: Dior, 2004

do you remember Dior’s "Dietrich" shoes? this was the first year i accompanied Marc Bagutta to Paris/Milan Fashion Week, i assisted with the buying for BaguttaLife by taking all the notes and whatnot. and occasionally Marc Bagutta would ask my opinion on things, seeing as i am such an extraordinarily stylish woman with exceptional taste and all. one of the things i fell in love with immediately were these shoes, i talked him into buying them (even though he’ll deny it if you ask him because he likes to claim credit for himself). well when we returned to NYC, his senior salesperson and store manager hated the photos of them, she derided him for being so stupid for choosing these pieces and declared her clients would despise them. wouldn’t you know they turned out to be the big major campaign for Dior ’04, everybody in the world was clamoring for these shoes and they sold out nearly everywheres.

hah. i’m just sayin.

brunch this day at Miss Lily’s. (ha ha ahaa yea, we all made jokes about how Anna Wintour called the Fire Department, it’s true.)

if you build it

jacket: Maurice Jones for Geld Iaz, 1997 | pants: RLX Ralph Lauren, 2009 | eyewear: Chanel, 2004

yes this jacket is the black version of the brown "safari" jacket i wore the other day. i got them both in 1997 when a tailor named Maurice Jones brought wholesale samples he’d made to Geld Iaz. i’d talked him down to about 40% of what he’d asked and agreed to buy the two samples to see if they garnered any interest with my clients. then i kinda forgot about them, and i never heard from Maurice Jones ever again. his buttons were a tad ugly so i removed them all and replaced the three front buttons with much nicer ones and ended up just keeping them both for myself.

be like water

the other great thing about cool snow riding gear? it’s all 100% waterproof.

who was it that said, "there’s no such thing as bad weather, there’s just one being ill-prepared" —was it that Blackwell guy? whatever, he was kinda full of shit anyways, but you get the picture.

these denim shorts are a hand-me-down from sweetie, they used to be full-length but i cut them and took in the crotch after he’d worn them down until they had holes in the ass.
