if you build it

jacket: Maurice Jones for Geld Iaz, 1997 | pants: RLX Ralph Lauren, 2009 | eyewear: Chanel, 2004

yes this jacket is the black version of the brown "safari" jacket i wore the other day. i got them both in 1997 when a tailor named Maurice Jones brought wholesale samples he’d made to Geld Iaz. i’d talked him down to about 40% of what he’d asked and agreed to buy the two samples to see if they garnered any interest with my clients. then i kinda forgot about them, and i never heard from Maurice Jones ever again. his buttons were a tad ugly so i removed them all and replaced the three front buttons with much nicer ones and ended up just keeping them both for myself.

urchin chic

jacket: Junya Watanabe, 2005 | teeshirt: American Apparel, 2009 | leggings: Forever 21, 2008 | boots: Burberry Prorsum, 2010 | eyewear: Gucci, 2005 | bag: Yves St Laurent, 2008 | hat: All Saints, 2010

yea this is my irritated wtf-yesterday-was-74-degrees-and-today-it’s-41-fucking-degrees look. i stole this jacket from sweetie, but it’s okay because i still let him wear it every once in awhile. the parka and blazer are actually attached as one piece. it’s even reversible– if you turn it inside out, instead of an orange parka under a black blazer, it looks like a black blazer under a green parka. it’s pretty funky.

bond.

jacket: A.B.S., 2009 | pants: Adrienne Vittadini, 1991 | top: Geld Iaz, 2009 | wrap: Geld Iaz, 1996 | fedora: Borsalino, 2009

you’d probably think one would need only one good tuxedo jacket, but when you finally find one you absolutely looove (and pay somewhat dearly for it as a result), you might discover yourself wanting to save it for very special occasions only, because you’re deathly afraid of ruining or overexposing it or something. and then suddenly you’d realize you actually need two tuxedo jackets— one for "every day" use of course. imagine that. well this is my "every day" tuxedo jacket. i’m just sayin.

rubber duckie

pullover: Ilaria Nistri, 2010 | pants: Geld Iaz, 1998 | boots: Fendi, 2010

even though the sky was bright and sunny, the weather forecast said 80% chance of rain by sunset. so everything i wore this day was 100% waterproof, it all looks sorta leathery but really it’s all rubber. and wouldn’t you know it didn’t rain a drop the entire day or night.

i love Miami. true, i grew to hate it when i lived here in the winter of 1992, but what can i say. it’s a great place to visit…

although currently my new favorite hotels are The W and The Setai, they were both entirely booked up due to the big annual boat show. so back to The Raleigh it was— ah, the memories. the poor Raleigh isn’t quite the same now as back in the golden olden Andre Balazs days, but it’s still a special little gem.

late breakfast by the pool; met friends for dinner at Prime 112 (even though i kinda can’t stand that place).

fashion week – f/w 2011

jacket: ? (Seoul), 2007 | skirt: Geld Iaz, 1999 | boots: Sportmax, 2010 | eyewear: street vendor, 2006 | bag: Fendi, 2007

happened across these old pair of shades i bought years ago from a street vendor (for $6) just because i liked the tint of the lenses and frame (even though i already owned a good dozen pair of designer sunglasses). i’d brought them home and played with them, adding some spare rhinestones i had, to jazz them up a wee bit. so aha haa i decided to sport them for Fashion Week, as something of a fashion-lover/hater’s anti-Fashion statement. they’re kinda neat actually, they make everything glow this great golden hue, so it seems like the sun is shining even when it’s not. which is not a bad way to cheer yourself up, like light-therapy or something.

the thing about Fashion Week is you’re often obliged to go places and be fashionable even when you aren’t in the mood. and there’s lots of walking, because so much is crammed into one day and of course the taxicabs are scarce. don’t let the amateur fashionistas fool you—- during Fashion Week it’s really the comfy flat shoes that are your best friend.

i’m only showing a few photos from the shows, because you can see pictures like this everywhere (even in ads and whatnot). whenever other style bloggers i like post runway shots, i get irritated and bored— it’s always the bloggers’ own personal styles i find most intriguing. to me, these people make Anna Wintour— like, totally obsolete.
