when i graduated from college in 1990, i gave up black. it came to me in an epiphany one day when i opened up my closet and saw nothing but typical teenage despondence. and so for decades afterward i turned my back on black, i hardly ever went near the pigment except in the Spring of 1997 when Tom Ford and Donna Karan had practically every discerning client of mine desperately begging for it. then sometime around 2009, in the midst of a seemingly pointless never-ending war, the global economic and financial-systems meltdown, and persistent corruption in the government of the most powerful nation in the world, somehow black became appealing to me again. last year, in 2010, nearly every single article of clothing i purchased was black. go figure. if this brutal winter ever lets up, it might be time to live in color again.

hello sunshine

coat: Moncler, 2010 | pants: Geld Iaz, 1998 | boots: Gianni Bravo, 2006 | eyewear: Yves St Laurent, 2010

i’m sure i wasn’t the only one who appreciated the sunshine-that-it-seems-we-haven’t-felt-in-months. the streets and stores and restaurants and whatnot all seemed quite bustling yesterday, everybody was out and about despite the still-freezing temperature.

drinks at "the Boom Boom" at Standard Hotel. although on certain nights when you’re feeling festive or have friends visiting from out of town, it’s undoubtedly quite nice to be one of "the chosen" at a place where "people are all the same [and… everybody knows your name]" — it’s actually the earlier hours at the Boom i really love the best, i don’t care what anybody says. ha ha ahaa oh okay who am i kidding, i wouldn’t trade my elite nocturnal status for all the early-hour democracy in the world. this is true.

"…so what comes next after a live appearance on Australia’s [number-one rated] morning show?"

food! of course. dinner at Maialino at The Gramercy Hotel, because it was just a short stroll from the recording studio/spaceship that zzzzoom! satellites you all the way to the land of the kangaroos.

good morning, australia

wow, filming for The Morning Show in Australia was pretty nerve-wracking but a really great experience. a detailed description of the whole shebang will definitely be included in my next book, PX Me, because i’m sure somebody else out there could probably use the information on what to expect and how to prepare for your very first appearance on a live-via-satellite international teevee show. yay!
