technically the sarong should be worn around the waist with a nice shirt or jacket (for women and men), especially to visit the temples and whatnot.

so uhh yea, this is me worshipping the umm… sun.

on the one hand, i find Bali almost too disconcertingly similar to the Philippines; a lot of it is the same, even some of the words in the different languages are very much alike. on the other hand, when it comes to service, the Balinese have an unquestionable mastery that’s unparalleled nearly any place else in the world due to an inherent philosophy that is vastly impressive and deeply admirable in its incredible benevolence and humility.

if things were different, i think i really could live here. at least for a little while.

swim top: American Apparel, 2010 | swim bottoms: Geld Iaz, 2008 | eyewear: Gucci, 2004

Geld Iaz always sold its swimwear in separate pieces so they could be mixed and matched, even its original collection all the way back in 1997. then around 2003 to 2004, after i’d traveled pretty extensively already, i started noticing the look becoming more trendy, more young women began mis-matching their bikinis. around 2005, Old Navy started offering its bathing suits individually, they even had a big marketing campaign on television advertising their new genius way of selling swimwear. so then i was over it.

the problem is i now have ample bottoms (ha look, i made a pun) but only scant tops (i spent a lot of time in Miami Beach, you see), and of the few tops i have, somehow i keep losing them. anyhoo, my point is i lost so many tops that sometime last year i popped into an American Apparel in South Beach and picked one up last minute. it’s made pretty poorly i gotta say, i almost can’t even believe it. but, that’s what you get for 24 bucks i guess. i keep meaning to make myself more tops but i never seem to have the time. i’m just sayin.

research in motion

huh, just when i was seriously contemplating finally replacing my trusty tactile-keyboard-having dinosaur of a Blackberry with an iPhone, it’s good ole RIM that’s kinda kicking Apple’s ass for me these last couple days.

oh also: that title up there is really a bit of a playful misnomer, cuz obviously i’m not really very much “in motion” right now at all. i’m just sayin.

nusa dua (da ipad due)

oh okay, most of these photos were actually shot by my Blackberry and not my iPad2, i was just trying to be clever in the title. and it turns out it’s not just my USB card reader that’s incompatible with OSX Lion (hence still not being able to extract the photos from my camera), the USB/charge cord for my b-berry doesn’t work either. i had to e-mail these pictures to my pretty brand spanking new MacBook Air instead. (sigh, dear Steve, why hast thou forsaken me? i’d probably have been tempted to make some kind of declaration about how i feel like killing somebody at Apple right now, but uh— yah maybe never mind.)

just something to perhaps still keep in mind the next time you haul all your snazzy state of the art equipment halfway around the world.

bitches aint $h!t but clothes and kicks.
